Cornwall Council’s Liberal Democrats have raised concerns about a possible budget overspend of almost Pounds 4 million by the authority after two months of the financial year.

The details of the problem are said to be revealed in documents due to be debated at next week”s Cabinet meeting and show there is a projected deficit of Pounds 2.367 million in the adult care and support budget, Pounds 600,000 in the housing service and Pounds 750,000 in customer first.

These are serious allegations in today’s financial climate and against the commitment of the efficiencies promised with the formation of the unitary authority, they should be investigated without delay.
